Nakhodka, Russia, a container port in the Russian Far East, on the Sea of Japan, became Oakland's sister city in April 1975. At that time, ships from Nakhodka (population 165,000) which has rail connections to the Trans Siberian and a large fishing industry, called at the Port of Oakland.

The Oakland-Nakhodka Sister City Association (ONSCA) is a non-profit, membership organization which gives life to the sister-city relationship. We carry out exchanges, sending and receiving adults and children who have an opportunity to learn a new culture and make new friends. Among those who have traveled are doctors, newspaper editors, ESL (English as a Second Language) and special education teachers, customs officials, businessmen and city officials, librarians, chefs, yachtsmen, children's choirs, middle and high school students.

We sponsor tourist trips to Nakhodka and the Russian Far East, an immense, ecologically diverse region. We offer periodic talks and slide shows that are open to the public. Members receive regular newsletters. We also are available to give presentations about Nakhodka and our activities. Please join us.
